SUMMARY:𓀤 Ecology of Closeness: Practices of Empathy | Taneční workshop | S. Rahal: Beyond the City of Time
DESCRIPTION:𓀤𓀥 \nJak blízko u sebe mohou dvě těla tančit\, aniž by se dotkla? \n▸ ▸ ▸ Workshop Ecology of Closeness: Practices of Empathy (Ekologie blízkosti: Cvičení empatie) s Alicou Minar proběhne v úterý 14. dubna od 16:00 do 18:00 v rámci doprovodného programu k výstavě Sahej Rahal: Beyond the City of Time (bit.ly/SAHEJ-RAHAL-BEYOND-THE-CITY-OF-TIME) přímo v prostorách Galerie Rudolfinum. \n▸ ▸ ▸ Na workshop ve středu 15. dubna v 18:00 volně naváže performance Ecology of Closeness (Ekologie blízkosti). Více informací o performance naleznete zde: bit.ly/Performance-Ecology-of-Closeness \n𓀤 Alica Minar \nAlica Minar je slovenská choreografka\, performerka a kurátorka působící v Praze a Berlíně. Prostřednictvím bizarních situací intuitivně hledá humor a poezii a společně s diváctvem rozebírá opomíjené stránky palčivých společenských témat. \n▸ ▸ ▸ Více o Alica Minar & col. naleznete zde: alicaminarcol.com \n——— 𓀤𓀥 ——— \n𓀤 Ecology of Closeness: Practices of Empathy | Dance Workshop | Sahej Rahal: Beyond the City of Time \nHow close can two bodies dance without touching? What tension\, curiosity\, or vibration emerges in the space between them? Literal and metaphorical touch enters as both risk and invitation: sensing heat through inner radar\, melting into another body\, offering ourselves as landscapes that shall be respected\, held\, and shared. Skin becomes a porous threshold where self meets the other. What happens when the limit is challenged\, what kind of embrace does this process entail? \nThe project builds on somatic improvisation\, choreographic research\, and (non)touch-based encounters. Performers and dancers navigate proximity\, elasticity\, awkwardness\, vulnerability\, and the intensity of being affected – exploring the capacities and quirks of empathy not as an innate trait but as an embodied practice. \n▸ ▸ ▸ The workshop Ecology of Closeness: Practices of Empathy with Alica Minar will take place on Tuesday\, April 14\, from 4 pm to 6 pm as part of the accompanying programme for the exhibition Sahej Rahal: Beyond the City of Time (bit.ly/SAHEJ-RAHAL-BEYOND-THE-CITY-OF-TIME-EN) at Galerie Rudolfinum. Admission is free. Capacity is limited\, we kindly ask you for a reservation via e-mail rajnisova@rudolfinum.org. The workshop will be held in Czech. \nDEAR VISITORS\, THE CAPACITY OF THE WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING. \n▸ ▸ ▸ The workshop will be followed by the performance Ecology of Closeness on Wednesday\, April 15\, at 6 pm. More information about the performance can be found here: bit.ly/Ecology-of-Closeness-Performance-EN \n𓀤 Alica Minar \nAlica Minar is a Slovak choreographer\, performer\, and curator based in Prague and Berlin. Loud visuals in which narration and abstraction go hand in hand are typical of her work. Through bizarre situations\, she intuitively searches for humour and poetry\, while dissecting the neglected sides of burning societal issues together with the audience. Shaped by choreographic scores and clowning principles\, she explores how nudity and costumes distort the perception of the dancing body. Since 2023\, she has also expanded her curatorial practice\, co-creating projects such as the Dancetopia Symposium and Fest of Fools. Since September 2024\, she is part of the curatorial team of Studio ALTA in Prague. Alica is a graduate of choreography studies at HAMU in Prague (BA) and Inter-University Centre for Dance HZT in Berlin (MA). \n▸ ▸ ▸ More info about Alica Minar & col. can be found here: alicaminarcol.com \n𓀤𓀥

SUMMARY:Diskuze MY: Tělo ví (The Body Knows)
DESCRIPTION:Někdy jsme unavení\, někdy rozklepaní\, někdy nám buší srdce radostí. Některé dny tělo vypne a nemůžeme dělat nic. \nMožná nejde o to tělu porozumět. Možná jde o to s ním zůstat. \nKontakt a registrace: Victoria Gabašová\, victoria@malainventura.cz

SUMMARY:Argo: Křest českého překladu dvou básnických sbírek T. S. Eliota
DESCRIPTION:T. Obě útlé sbírky\, vycházející v češtině v jednom svazku\, společně vytyčují nejzřetelnější předěl v Eliotově básnickém díle: první báseň je svou fragmentárností\, tragikomickou rituálností a různohlasím těsně spřízněna s Pustou zemí\, druhá svou meditativní religiozitou a širším souzvukem předjímá pozdní Čtyři kvartety.

SUMMARY:Kafka and Havel: Leadership\, Economics\, and Power
DESCRIPTION:At Hebrew University in 1990\, Havel made the bold claim that\, “I sometimes feel I’m the only one who really understands Kafka.” Where do these two minds meet and where do they diverge? Professor Leah Tomkins\, author of the ground-breaking book\, Franz Kafka and the Truths of Leadership (2024) will join literary scholar doc. Mgr. Zuzana Říhová on stage for a discussion about absurdity\, the economics of attention\, and the role of power in leadership. \nTomkins argues that Kafka’s extraordinary foresight in understanding that power – including the power over life or death – often hinges on the ‘attention grab’ that distorts our personal\, social\, political and organisational relations. Havel too found himself in the seat of political power\, struggling with its ambiguous and delusive temptations. As leaders struggle with their own shrinking attention spans\, as well as with how to direct their supporters’ attention in an increasingly polarised world\, there are surprisingly practical ideas and tactics one can take from Kafka’s work\, which Havel claimed to understand so well.

SUMMARY:The rise of the far right in Latin America - (Discussion Group)
DESCRIPTION:Open political discussion group in Prague – come and participate! \nTheme: The rise of the far right in Latin America; Why does it keep gaining consensus and captivating public opinion? Why do popular sectors\, which have historically identified with the left\, now see these leaders as an option? \nIn Czechia\, the far right (SPD and Motoristé) already influences the government – “Trumpism” has already arrived in the heart of Europe. But perhaps there is a key difference: While in Czechia politics is framed as “democracy vs authoritarianism\,” in Latin America the phenomenon is much cruder: people perceive that voting does very little – it doesn’t solve hunger\, insecurity\, or precarity. Politics is experienced as a circus\, and the far right capitalizes on that rage by promising to “blow up the system” – as a response to the disillusionment with liberal democracy. \nSome of the hypotheses from the left to explain this phenomenon are as follows: \n1. Crisis of representation and failure of “progressivism” – One of the most solid theses points out that the advance of the far right is\, paradoxically\, the child of the crisis of neoliberalism and the inability of the governments that followed it. \n2. Asymmetric polarization”: rebellion dresses up as the right – It’s a common mistake to believe that rebellion and social rage can only translate into left-wing votes. Faced with popular exhaustion\, figures like Milei\, Kast\, or Bolsonaro channel discontent not against capitalism\, but against “political elites\,” “progressivism\,” or the poor (whom they blame for the crisis)\, constructing an authoritarian and liberal common sense. \n3. The return of the Monroe Doctrine by the United States – Trumpism has launched an offensive to retake undisputed control of the region\, challenge geopolitical powers like China\, and stop any attempt at autonomous integration. The far-right governments are\, in this sense\, the executing arms of this new recolonization. \n4. Neofascism and the culture of “order” – More than populism\, what we see is neofascism. These projects share a common core: authoritarianism\, reactionary nationalism\, the cult of the leader\, and the targeting of “scapegoats” (immigrants\, feminists\, dissidents). \n5. The Bukele factor: exception or model? – The analysis here is more complex: he is not a classic neoliberal like Milei\, but his government has mutated toward “bourgeois Bonapartism.” His success lies in having broken with the old corrupt political caste and offering tangible results (security) that the Salvadoran left (FMLN) failed to provide\, thus winning the loyalty of broad popular sectors. \n📅 Date: April 15th⏰ Time: 7 PM📍 Location: AC254 / Argentinská 783/18\, Prague. \nAbout us:Asamblea Abierta de Praga is a leftist collective established by migrants and locals in Prague. With our work\, we seek to build broad and plural alliances with other similar groups and people in the city.

SUMMARY:420PEOPLE: 42+PEOPLE: WHERE
DESCRIPTION:Projekt 42+PEOPLE souboru současného tance 420PEOPLE oslavuje mezigenerační dialog tanečníků. V duetu WHERE v rámci projektu 42+PEOPLE\, který propojuje všechny hodnoty současného tance\, se představí dvojice českých významných tanečníků: Helena Arenbergerová & Václav Kuneš. Helena Arenbergerová získala za svou sólovou roli v tomto představení hlavní Cenu Thálie 2023 za ženský výkon v kategorii Tanec. \n„Naše choreografické spojení nepřináší společný příběh\, ale rozehrává intimitu každého z nás v ryze osobní taneční výpovědi. Bez klišé. Bez nutných anotací. Přesto však evokuje velmi známý renesanční obraz plný neuchopitelného napětí mezi stabilními i rozestřenými životy\, napětí v blízkosti dvou cizích lidí… A stále hmatatelnější skrze současný tanec\,” říká Václav Kuneš\, choreograf\, tanečník a umělecký ředitel souboru 420PEOPLE. \nKoncept 42+PEOPLE\, který založil choreograf a umělecký šéf souboru Václav Kuneš\, si dává za cíl tvořit představení s performery\, tanečníky a umělci staršími 42 let. SUMMARY:The Hour of the Star by Clarice Lispector
DESCRIPTION:Narrated by the cosmopolitan Rodrigo S.M.\, this brief\, strange\, and haunting tale is the story of Macabéa\, one of life’s unfortunates. Living in the slums of Rio de Janeiro and eking out a poor living as a typist\, Macabéa loves movies\, Coca-Cola\, and her rat of a boyfriend; she would like to be like Marilyn Monroe\, but she is ugly\, underfed\, sickly\, and unloved. Rodrigo recoils from her wretchedness\, and yet he cannot avoid realization that for all her outward misery\, Macabéa is inwardly free. She doesn’t seem to know how unhappy she should be. Lispector employs her pathetic heroine against her urbane\, empty narrator–edge of despair to edge of despair–and\, working them like a pair of scissors\, she cuts away the reader’s preconceived notions about poverty\, identity\, love\, and the art of fiction.

SUMMARY:Face to Face with Artistis in prague
DESCRIPTION:WHY?The “Artists in Prague” PB group was created almost ten years ago\, when I settled in Prague\, yet we’ve never met in person. It’s time to meet face-to-face and let new collaborations flourish. In many sectors\, foreign and local artists are still separated and show little interest in each other. Why is that? Let’s demystify this separation and create a more dynamic\, inclusive\, and international art community. \nWHEN?We will meet every first and third Friday of the month at a cozy café in Prague 1\, the Dorado Cafe\, starting at 18:00. SUMMARY:The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: Charles Augustus Milverton
DESCRIPTION:The Mad and Merry Men present the next installment in their Sherlock Holmes series in Prague! \nA man who deals in secrets. A fortune built on shame. And a client so desperate that even Sherlock Holmes hesitates. \nThis spring\, The Mad and Merry Men bring Charles Augustus Milverton to the stage — a chilling tale of blackmail\, morality\, and the price of doing what is “right.” Known as the king of blackmailers\, Milverton does not steal — he collects. Letters\, scandals\, indiscretions. And once he has them\, he never lets go.Holmes takes the case with cold determination. But this time\, the method is different. The line between justice and crime begins to blur — and for Dr. Watson\, that line still matters. \nAs the investigation deepens\, so does the divide between them. What begins as a shared mission becomes a quiet conflict of principles. Watson questions. Holmes acts. And in the presence of a man like Milverton\, even the great detective may be willing to go further than his friend can follow. \nFollowing the now sold-out successes of previous productions\, this latest chapter continues a series that has grown far beyond its origins — evolving in scale\, intensity\, and ambition\, while retaining the sharp dialogue and immediacy that define the Mad and Merry Men’s work. \nExpect tension not only between hunter and prey\, but between the two men at the heart of the legend. \n18. April20:00Divadlo D21\, Prague \nThe secrets are real. The choices are irreversible. And the game is afoot — even if it tears them apart.

SUMMARY:The Imperfectionists Present - Cabinet of Curiosities
DESCRIPTION:The Imperfectionists invite you to an evening of curiosities from the ends of the earth — objects with stories stranger than fiction\, histories darker than you’d expect\, and origins that raise more questions than they answer. \nWithin this interactive\, fully improvised show\, we’ll explore mysterious artifacts together: the peculiar\, the priceless\, and the possibly cursed. Who owned them? How did they travel so far from home? How many hands have touched them\, and how many of those hands met an untimely end? Each artifact will spark a cascade of improvised scenes — no script\, no plan\, just the stories that want to be told in the moment. \nCome with us on a journey through forgotten corners of history. Bring your curiosity\, your skepticism\, and maybe a little good luck charm of your own. Every show is different\, every discovery is real\, and nobody — not even us — knows quite where the night will take us.

SUMMARY:Shut Up & Write! ve Skauťáku
DESCRIPTION:Shut Up & Write! — a worldwide phenomenon. No matter\, if you’re sixteen or sixty\, come and join us on a writing adventure! Anyone’s welcome! You don’t have to be an established author. In fact\, you don’t have to be an author at all! Join our laid‐back group on a Sunday afternoon\, and work on anything you desire. A novel\, a short story\, a screenplay\, a diary entry\, a scientific paper\, a poem\, a recipe\, a blogpost\, or maybe just an urgent e‐mail? Whatever it is that’s on your mind\, we’re here to silently support your efforts. You’ll find us every Sunday at high noon in one of the café back rooms — usually the first one. We gather\, grab some refreshments\, and around 12:15 start a short introductory round. Then we — as expected — Shut Up & Write! We write in two 45‐minute blocks with about 15‐minute break in between to stretch\, resupply\, or visit the bathroom. Perfect for networking too! At the end\, we have a short wrap‐up loop. Sometimes we stay and chat a bit afterwards\, share news\, ideas\, fresh thoughts… But we’re usually done even with that by 3 pm latest. Of course\, you’re free to leave anytime! Started by a San Francisco based sci‐fi writer Rennie Saunders in 2007\, based on years of experience\, and joined by over 10\,000 writers in over 400 cities in more than 60 countries worldwide. Now in Prague! Come try the magic of writing in a company. The primary communication language is English\, but you can write anything you want\, in any language you prefer. No sharing\, no critique\, no stress\, completely free. Participants can be assisted in Czech if necessary. ~~~ Shut Up & Write! (Zmlkni a piš!) Potom — dle očekávání — zmlkneme a píšeme! Nyní i v Praze!

SUMMARY:Table Mountain String Band near Tiny Teahouse - busking edition
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you folks to another semi-acoustic busking gig near the Tiny Teahouse in Letná park. \nTable Mountain String Band is a four-piece group based out of Prague\, playing high-energy\, driving old-time American fiddle tunes and folk songs. The band gets its name from an area not far from where Nick Jennings grew up\, in Northern California. He fronts the group\, playing clawhammer banjo\, along with his wife Eliška Jennings\, a native of Prague\, on guitar. The couple’s intertwined vocal harmonies and strong rhythms lay the groundwork for the band. \nThey are joined by Ludvík Jacek\, also from Prague\, who has played fiddle from an early age\, developing a versatile and enchanting sound. Hailing from Moravia\, Petr Pijáček brings a solid foundation in Moravian folklore to the group. His dancing bass lines fill out their sound and hold it all together. \nhttps://tablemountainstringband.com

SUMMARY:European Book Tour : Forty Letters - to Women in War at Globe Bookstore & Cafe\, Prague
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Globe Bookstore and Cafe in Prague for the European Book Tour: Forty Letters to Women in War! \nPRAGUE – During the European Book Tour 2026 of Van Loon’s Forty Letters – to Women in War the doors to Globe Bookstore & Cafe\, Prague will open for an intimate reading with the author Erik van Loon. The bookstore Prague’s first and best English language bookstore with an iconic\, lively and trendy café. The reading on April 19 starts at 19:00. \nForty Letters – to Women in WarIn forty short\, meticulously crafted personal letters addressed to forty different women\, Van Loon transforms the horrors of the Second World War into intimate\, largely biographical accounts of resilience\, courage\, and total vulnerability. His ultimate goal is to inspire women and men in Kyiv with the letters on April 17th. \nFrom World-Famous to Hyper-LocalForty Letters is the result of a hundred-day search through newspaper clippings\, theses\, books\, archives\, and museums both at home and abroad\, supplemented by numerous interviews. The book is not merely a list of famous names\, but a conscious blend of icons and unsung heroines. Van Loon writes to the world-famous American dancer Josephine Baker\, but also to the living English farmer Peggy Banham. \nUncomfortable TruthsIn these forty letters\, Erik van Loon takes the reader on journey through the atrocities of the Second World War and by addressing the letters to women\, the author gives a voice to women whose stories have often been overshadowed in historical narratives. He also does not shy away from the uncomfortable truth. He highlights the zeal with which the Dutch police rounded up Roma and Sinti people on May 14\, 1944\, only to be forced to release most of them in Camp Westerbork due to unlawful arrest. He also reveals which six “essential” professions were spared while entire villages of innocent civilians were burned to the ground. The book names not only the victims but also the convicted perpetrators who\, in some cases\, went on to enjoy illustrious careers after the war. \nStop The BombAfter each reading\, visitors will have the opportunity to sign Van Loon’s Anti‑Aerial Bomb Treaty\, designed in 2025. The first signatures came from Berlin\, Warsaw\, Hengelo\, and Rotterdam. Now it is Zürich’s turn. Van Loon’s long‑term goal is to formally draft the treaty in Warsaw on September 25\, 2039\, and ratify it in Rotterdam on May 14\, 2040. Inspired by Princess Diana’s Anti‑Landmine Treaty\, the initiative calls on nations to cease producing\, stockpiling\, deploying\, or transferring aerial bombs.More information: http://www.14mei.nl/treaty/ \nEuropean Book TourBefore Shakespeare & Company in Vienna on April 15\, he will read at Photobastei 2.0 in Zurich on April 11\, at Altroquando in Rome on April 13\, and after at Sense in Kyiv on April 17. After he will visit Warsaw on April 18\, Prague on April 19\, Berlin on April 21. Between May 9 till 14 he will present his book in Paris\, London\, Brussel and Amsterdam.

SUMMARY:Globe Creative Writing Group
DESCRIPTION:Globe Creative Writing Group was established in October of 2016. We meet weekly at the Globe Bookstore on Mondays from 19-21. \nFeel free to come by and introduce yourself\, whether or not your facebook request has been acknowledged by us. We receive many requests\, and prefer to accept those we know will contribute later on. :). \nWe are an eclectic group composed of various writers practising a range of techniques. We’ve so far been writing short fiction\, poetry\, essays\, genre fiction\, experimental prose\, surrealism\, playwriting\, screenwriting\, non-fiction as well as long-term projects. \nThis group relies on and sustains itself through thoughtful and productive critique. During our meetings\, we discuss each member’s submission (should they choose to submit that week) in depth. \n At the end of each meeting\, a prompt is assigned that we will base our submissions for the next week on. Transcending the prompt\, of course\, is always possible. If you would like feedback on a long-term project or a submission that isn’t related to the prompt\, feel free to do so. \n \nRules and Guidelines for Submissions: \n-To ensure everyone can give\, and get\, quality critiques\, we will review no more than 8 submissions per week. \n-Please submit by Saturday at the latest. As many of us have jobs\, families\, holidays etc.\, we need ample time to give thoughtful feedback and criticism to each submission. If you submit later than the Saturday deadline\, don’t worry! We can save your work to critique the next week. \n-If you do submit\, please be present at the meeting that your work will be critiqued. If you cannot make it\, please let the group know via the Facebook group. If we take the time to critique\, we want to know that you will be there to accept feedback. Again\, if you cannot make it\, we will save your submission for the next week. \n-Please do not submit work that is longer than 1\,500 words. We want to make sure everyone receives ample time to discuss and is not overwhelmed by the amount of content they will need to read. Because of this\, please try to adhere to a no more than 1\,500-word standard. \n \nAI Disclaimer \nWriters: If you’ve used AI in your work\, please inform us and tell us to what extent you have used AI. \nCritiques: Please refrain from using AI to assist in your critiques. We are sharing our work with others because we want your perspective. \nPrompts are meant to be broad in order to maximize creativity. We have had long-term projects devised from simple prompts and continue to! It’s a way for us to break free of our comfort zones as writers. Don’t be afraid! \nAs a group\, we also encourage publishing work\, whether it be in Prague or outside. Feel free to post any publishing opportunities you think would fit the group or anyone in it. So far we have had several prize winners and magazine publications from group members. This group is fundamentally about encouragement! \nAny other questions\, please send us a message on Facebook 🙂 \nHappy writing!

SUMMARY:: Who are We and Who Are We Not? Polish\, Slovak\, and Czech National Narratives
DESCRIPTION:Who are We and Who Are We Not? Complications and Contradictions of Polish\, Slovak\, and Czech National Narratives \nAre dominant Polish narratives still stuck in a noble imaginary that represses the memory of a wartime and post-WWII revolution that created the Polish middle class? Are Slovak national narratives still immersed in a bucolic ideal that has never fully come to terms with modern reality? Are Czech myth-makers perpetually beset by the contradictory sense of belonging to a Slavic East and belonging to a West that denies Eastern-ness?Join philosopher Andrzej Leder\, anthropologist Juraj Buzalka\, and historian Johana Kłusek in discussing how national narratives navigate between ideas of East and West\, past and modernity\, place and world. Moderated by Joe Grim Feinberg \nJuraj Buzalka is a social anthropologist at Comenius University and author of the 2023 book Postsedliaci: Slovenský ľudový protest (Post-Peasants: Slovak Folk Protest)\, described as “a merciless look at Slovaks” that “critically comments on our illusions about ourselves.” \nJohana Kłusek is a social and cultural historian Assistant Professor at Jagiellonian University\, specializing in discursive encounters between East and West in modern history. She is currently completing her first book\, which explores Czechoslovak Anglophilia during the turbulent 1940s. \nAndrzej Leder is a psychotherapist and philosopher of culture at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences\, and author of the 2014 influential book Prześniona rewolucja. Ćwiczenie z logiki (Sleepwalking through the Revolution: An Exercise in Historical Logic). His most recent book Ekonomia to stan umysłu (Economics is a State of Mind\, 2023) critically analyzes the semantics of economic language.

SUMMARY:Multilingual Poetry Open Stage + OneHome Projection
DESCRIPTION:”Guilt and anger and fear are part of the problem. If you want to save the world\, save it because you love it!” —Gary Snyder \nJoin us for a special evening of poetry celebrating our beautiful Earth! As usual\, please bring your texts\, your friends\, your love… If possible\, please bring texts about the Earth. \nduring the evening\, you can expect to see multiple projections form the Earth from space\, some commented\, and some that will just be a background for your poems… \nThis project is supported by the Organisation OneHome:”OneHome is a nonprofit initiative with a bold mission: to help every human fall in love with the Earth. Using unique NASA images taken from one and a half million kilometers away by the DSCOVR satellite\, OneHome offers everyone the chance to experience the Overview Effect — that life-changing perspective astronauts describe when they see our planet from space.” \n”You will discover how real images of our planet in motion — whole\, fragile\, and breathtaking — can awaken awe\, responsibility\, and love. Not as a map divided by nations\, but as one luminous home shared by us all. To deepen this experience\, OneHome collaborates with musicians and inspiring voices from around the world\, bringing art and science together in service of the Earth.”
