SUMMARY:Astrachan (US) // Roksan Mandel (TR) // ÖKNÖ (CZ)
DESCRIPTION:Astrachan is the surname and solo project of Chicago-based musician Ben Astrachan\, whose boisterous and joyous rock-and-roll weaves together the artisanal folk of old masters like Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) with the shapeshifting indie of new-age acts like Daniel Romano. \nOn ‘Signs’ (slated for release on Happen Twice in October)\, Astrachan dips his ladle into a great borscht of mystical and political influence to serve up a kaleidoscopic brew of anti-Zionist\, Bundist\, diasporic indie rock\, self-produced in the candlelit haze of his all-analog basement-bedroom studio. ‘Signs’ is a hymnal to the madness of the Jewish prophets who railed against the follies of the Nation and were banished into spiritual wilderness. It deals with apocalypse in the original sense (revelation\, “un-covering”)\, and asks\, what does it mean to be conscripted in a cosmic war? How do we walk the tightrope of justice and peace? And when G-d winks at us through the veil\, are we ready to respond? \nIn addition to his eponymous solo project\, Astrachan lends his boyish charm and polytechnic abilities to his shared duos Berta Bigtoe (with Austin Koenigstein) and Astro Heart (with Ryan Gebhardt)\, as well as Smushie\, No Lonesome\, Pyzow!\, Rudy De Anda\, Butthole\, Shoulderbird and more. https://astrachan2.bandzoogle.com/https://linktr.ee/astrachanmusic \nThe evening will kick off with an opening by Roksan Mandel.Roksan Mandel is a Turkish pianist and vocalist based in Prague\, that blends jazz influences with soulful melodies in her original compositions and heartfelt renditions of Turkish pop/rock classics.Roksan Mandel links:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/4r08jgVRB7vnG64OoRRGv5…Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/roksanmandel/ \nThe night will finish off with ÖKNÖ – more info coming soon \nEntry/ VstupMusic from 21.hCash is best for entry fee. SUMMARY:Shut Up & Write! ve Skauťáku
DESCRIPTION:Shut Up & Write! — a worldwide phenomenon. No matter\, if you’re sixteen or sixty\, come and join us on a writing adventure! Anyone’s welcome! You don’t have to be an established author. In fact\, you don’t have to be an author at all! Join our laid‐back group on a Sunday afternoon\, and work on anything you desire. A novel\, a short story\, a screenplay\, a diary entry\, a scientific paper\, a poem\, a recipe\, a blogpost\, or maybe just an urgent e‐mail? Whatever it is that’s on your mind\, we’re here to silently support your efforts. You’ll find us every Sunday at high noon in one of the café back rooms — usually the first one. We gather\, grab some refreshments\, and around 12:15 start a short introductory round. Then we — as expected — Shut Up & Write! We write in two 45‐minute blocks with about 15‐minute break in between to stretch\, resupply\, or visit the bathroom. Perfect for networking too! At the end\, we have a short wrap‐up loop. Sometimes we stay and chat a bit afterwards\, share news\, ideas\, fresh thoughts… But we’re usually done even with that by 3 pm latest. Of course\, you’re free to leave anytime! Started by a San Francisco based sci‐fi writer Rennie Saunders in 2007\, based on years of experience\, and joined by over 10\,000 writers in over 400 cities in more than 60 countries worldwide. Now in Prague! Come try the magic of writing in a company. The primary communication language is English\, but you can write anything you want\, in any language you prefer. No sharing\, no critique\, no stress\, completely free. Participants can be assisted in Czech if necessary. ~~~ Shut Up & Write! (Zmlkni a piš!) Potom — dle očekávání — zmlkneme a píšeme! Nyní i v Praze!

SUMMARY:Globe Creative Writing Group
DESCRIPTION:Globe Creative Writing Group was established in October of 2016. We meet weekly at the Globe Bookstore on Mondays from 19-21. \nFeel free to come by and introduce yourself\, whether or not your facebook request has been acknowledged by us. We receive many requests\, and prefer to accept those we know will contribute later on. :). \nWe are an eclectic group composed of various writers practising a range of techniques. We’ve so far been writing short fiction\, poetry\, essays\, genre fiction\, experimental prose\, surrealism\, playwriting\, screenwriting\, non-fiction as well as long-term projects. \nThis group relies on and sustains itself through thoughtful and productive critique. During our meetings\, we discuss each member’s submission (should they choose to submit that week) in depth. \n At the end of each meeting\, a prompt is assigned that we will base our submissions for the next week on. Transcending the prompt\, of course\, is always possible. If you would like feedback on a long-term project or a submission that isn’t related to the prompt\, feel free to do so. \n \nRules and Guidelines for Submissions: \n-To ensure everyone can give\, and get\, quality critiques\, we will review no more than 8 submissions per week. \n-Please submit by Saturday at the latest. As many of us have jobs\, families\, holidays etc.\, we need ample time to give thoughtful feedback and criticism to each submission. If you submit later than the Saturday deadline\, don’t worry! We can save your work to critique the next week. \n-If you do submit\, please be present at the meeting that your work will be critiqued. If you cannot make it\, please let the group know via the Facebook group. If we take the time to critique\, we want to know that you will be there to accept feedback. Again\, if you cannot make it\, we will save your submission for the next week. \n-Please do not submit work that is longer than 1\,500 words. We want to make sure everyone receives ample time to discuss and is not overwhelmed by the amount of content they will need to read. Because of this\, please try to adhere to a no more than 1\,500-word standard. \n \nAI Disclaimer \nWriters: If you’ve used AI in your work\, please inform us and tell us to what extent you have used AI. \nCritiques: Please refrain from using AI to assist in your critiques. We are sharing our work with others because we want your perspective. \nPrompts are meant to be broad in order to maximize creativity. We have had long-term projects devised from simple prompts and continue to! It’s a way for us to break free of our comfort zones as writers. Don’t be afraid! \nAs a group\, we also encourage publishing work\, whether it be in Prague or outside. Feel free to post any publishing opportunities you think would fit the group or anyone in it. So far we have had several prize winners and magazine publications from group members. This group is fundamentally about encouragement! \nAny other questions\, please send us a message on Facebook 🙂 \nHappy writing!

SUMMARY:Svět knihy Praha '26
DESCRIPTION:📖 31. ročník mezinárodního knižního veletrhu a literárního festivalu Svět knihy Praha se pomalu\, ale jistě blíží! Dramaturgický koncept vychází z citátu Milana Kundery „Boj člověka proti moci je bojem paměti proti zapomínání“ a reflektuje roli literatury v době společenských i politických proměn. Festival představí domácí i zahraniční nakladatele a bohatý mezinárodní program. Novinkou letošního ročníku bude Svět knihy Plus\, nedělní odpolední programový blok propojující literaturu s dalšími formami umění. \nTěšíme se na vás!____________________ \nDůležité informace: 14. – 17. května 2026 Výstaviště Praha / Křižíkovy pavilony / Praha 7 – Holešovice Vstupenky: http://bit.ly/3P0XHii

SUMMARY:Blood Meridian by Cormack McCarthy
DESCRIPTION:Set in the anarchic world opened up by America’s westward expansion\, Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy is an epic and potent account of the barbarous violence that man visits upon man. Through the hostile landscape of the Texas-Mexico border wanders the Kid\, a fourteen year-old Tennessean who is quickly swept up in the relentless tide of blood. But the apparent chaos is not without its order: while Americans hunt Indians – collecting scalps as their bloody trophies – they too are stalked as prey.

SUMMARY:Punctum Film Club #5: DIY short films
DESCRIPTION:This edition of PFC presents short films with DIY approach to filmmaking: 01:26:54\, a collaboration between anarchist collectives from Thessaloniki; Momentument by Prague collective Object Paradise and director Tyko Say; and 23:23 (Život jedna báseň\, není peříčko) by Czech director Kateřina Dudová. \n23:23 (Život jedna báseň\, není peříčko\, 2024\, Prague\, Czechia)We all perceive poetry differently. For some\, a poem is a rhyming text\, for others a metaphysical experience. For director Kateřina Dudová\, it is an experiment with three people who are close to her\, whom she places in one room for three days\, leaving them to their fate with the task of writing a poem. Sometimes the recording of real events is more poetic than the poem itself. \n“I was given the task of making a ‘film poem’\, but I hate poems\, so I’m looking for something… the feeling I want to get from poetry\, how I feel. What is a poem?” – Kateřina Dudová23mins\, CZ with EN subsDirected by Kateřina Dudová \nOBJECT:PRAHA IV : Momentument (2025\, Prague\, Czechia)If you could paint a state of mind\, would that be art\, or just a moment? Momentument is a 30-minute documentary exploring public authorship through collective creation & curation where no one is an artist outside of the immediate moment. Set to the rhythm of the Žižkov underground\, the film is part of the OBJECT:PRAHA series which aims to celebrate the subjective experience in creating together through community happenings\, curations\, and media. 27mins\, ENDirected by Tyko Say \n01:26:54 (2007\, Thessaloniki\, Greece)Vasilis\, a fanatical film lover and sharp critic\, tries to convince his environment that Leni Riefenstahl\, the Third Reich’s filmmaker\, was an overrated\, talentless beast and not a great female pioneer of the 7th art. So he puts “Triumph of the Will”\, Riefenstahl’s landmark film\, under the microscope\, and tries to discover its aesthetic “errors”. Things take an unexpected turn when he discovers that at 1 hour 26 minutes and 54 seconds into the film… \nThis short film was initiated by a group of non-experts (mainly from Thessaloniki collectives Fabrica Yfanet\, Machina and +technia-) who were aware of their limitations in terms of filmmaking. We explored this new terrain during a collectively organized production of 01:26:54. Using only basic equipment and without asking for financial sponsors or permission we would like to believe that we have contributed a short motion picture to one of the most significant ventures of our times: the fight against the inevitability of absolute order and control.25mins\, GR with EN subs \nVoluntary entry (recommended 100-200) \nPunctum Film Club screens international films once a month that are creative\, artistic\, and evoke a strange feeling in the audience. Whenever possible\, the film screenings will be followed by a discussion with the creators of the film\, providing space for the audience to ask questions\, share their thoughts\, and understand the perspectives of the artists.

SUMMARY:Honoring William Luers
DESCRIPTION:Friend of the Czech Republic\, Václav Havel\, and many other Czech and Slovak fighters for democracy\, William Luers\, who passed away a year ago\, would have turned 97 on May 15th. During his more than thirty-year long diplomatic career\, Bill Luers held\, among other positions\, the positions of Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and US Ambassador to Venezuela. In the years 1986-1999\, he served as the president of the world-renowned Metropolitan Museum in New York City. \nBill Luers played a particularly significant role as the ambassador during President Reagan’s administration. With the help of his wife\, Wendy Luers\, he initiated a cultural diplomacy program which enabled the greatest American writers and artists of the era to visit Czechoslovakia. He made the intimate environment of the American Embassy residence into a place that fostered meetings and discussions between his American visitors and prominent Czech and Slovak opposition intellectuals. It was thanks to these meetings that a vast cultural front of support for persecuted Czechoslovakian dissidents was created in the United States. The Luers continued to support the Czechoslovakian democratic transformation even after November 1989. \nThese events and others unforgettable stories will be recounted and remembered by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Prague\, David Wisner\, Michael Žantovský\, Alexandr Vondra (online)\, Martin Palouš (online)\, Cameron Munter\, Jolyon Naegele\, and\, in-person\, Wendy Luers. \nThe event will be conducted in English without interpretation.

SUMMARY:Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story: promítání filmu včetně diskuse se samotnou Královnou 2-tone
DESCRIPTION:Omezený počet vstupenek! \nUnikátní a ceněný dokument Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story mapuje čtyřicetiletou hudební kariéru Pauline a její neúnavné úsilí o rasovou rovnost.

SUMMARY:Prague Fringe: Shallowspace
DESCRIPTION:A new trans sci-fi body horror play exploring humanity’s legacy in the stars\, arriving from a rave run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A disembodied artificially intelligent voice awakens August deep in space. In a daze\, she confronts her reality – one of the last human beings floating in the void\, guiding the archive of civilisation towards its destination in the far beyond. Frozen blood. Coolant in your veins. Every moment of human history preserved in digital hyperspace. Memories become data. Routine becomes regimen\, yet somehow\, your limbs feel… wrong? \nWith an original synthwave sound-track\, high-tech projected visuals\, and an entrancing solo performance. Blending a nostalgic and queered vision of science fiction with body horror\, Callie O’Brien’s debut one-woman play is a visceral depiction of the trans lived experience\, brimming with yearning\, spite\, and a sea of ethereal sensation.

SUMMARY:Public Image Ltd. (UK) vystoupí 22.5. v SaSaZu
DESCRIPTION:Public Image Ltd. míří do Prahy: John Lydon přiveze syrovou energii post-punku \nPublic Image Ltd. a zpěvák John Lydon alias Johnny Rotten – energická rocková legenda a bývalý frontman Sex Pistols\, přiveze 22.5. 2026 do SaSaZu svoje věhlasné #PILofficial👍🤘👈🎸🎯🎸 Ať žije post-punk 😀😎 \nAť žije post-punk. Public Image Ltd. v čele s Johnem Lydonem alias Johnny Rotten (bývalým frontmanem Sex Pistols) přiváží do Čech svou věhlasnou show – hlasitou\, rytmickou\, ostrou a nebezpečně aktuální i po více než čtyřech dekádách. \nIkonická osobnost Johna Lydona\, charisma frontmana\, který ještě v Sex Pistols definoval rebelii celé generace\, a v podobě PIL zároveň kompaktní kapela\, jež přepsala pravidla post-punku.

SUMMARY:Anarchistický festival knihy
\nInformace o přednáškách\, workshopech a vystupujících budeme přidávat postupně. \nxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThis year\, after some time\, the Anarchist Bookfair will be a one-day event and will take place on Saturday\, May 23\, 2026\, at Štvanice in Prague\, in the premises of the Bike Jesus and Fuchs2 clubs. \nAs usual\, publishers and distributors of anarchist literature not only from Czechia and Slovakia\, but also from abroad will be present. The festival is not just a sales presentation of books and literature. It is primarily a meeting place where you can meet not only small publishers and authors face to face\, but also various organizations\, collectives\, and groups from the wider anti-authoritarian movement. It is a place where you can meet real people and get to know organizations and collectives in a different way than from statements on websites\, a place where you can establish new relationships and friendships\, a place where you can discuss new projects and collaborations. \nThe bookfair will be followed by a music program at the Bike Jesus club. \nWe will be adding information about lectures\, workshops\, and performers as it becomes available.

SUMMARY:Prague Fringe: Fake
DESCRIPTION:It’s pretty\, but is it art? This is a show about trickery. About fraud. About lies. Magician and storyteller Chris Cook weaves a true tale of deception\, where lives across centuries are bound together by illusion. Chris shares the story of a faker so skilled he had to forge his way to freedom\, an artist so talented he may himself be a fraud\, a magician whose promise conceals a lie\, and a mysterious figure who may not exist at all. This is a story only a magician could tell. \nFresh from its acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe run\, FAKE was named a Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe 2025 and received critical acclaim. \n★★★★★ “It’s a history lesson\, a philosophical debate\, and a masterclass in storytelling” — Edinburgh Reviews \n★★★★★ “FAKE is the show to see” — World Magic Review \n★★★★★ “It is a true joy to watch a show that is funny and smart and self-aware as Fake undeniably is” — The Student \n★★★★ — Everything Theatre \n★★★★ — EdFringe Review \n★★★★ — Fringe Hot Takes

SUMMARY:Prague Fringe: The Virgin Mother Bleeds
DESCRIPTION:Returning to Prague following a nearly sold-out run\, the newly emerging Czech playwright\, Bibiana Nesvadbová\, is back with a brand new show! She will take you on a journey through an absurdist setting\, where autonomy is waning and personal choice is merely an illusion. \nA believer and a potential mother walk into a hospital room. Debating their gripes with freedom\, or lack thereof\, they speak of faith\, men\, and liquor. The two eternally different women find the one question that connects them. If your savior never existed\, who would you worship? A pothole? \nAnd would you hold out hope that they would show? \nGrab your mother\, son\, and some spirits\, and come see the new play\, starring Bibiana Nesvadbová and Marie Měkotová. We promise you will reenter the outside world feeling reborn.

SUMMARY:Prague Fringe: Piano Smashers
DESCRIPTION:A mother bequeaths her piano to her children in a will\, but they really do not want it and all that it represents. 4 Star Reviews from Binge Fringe and Fringe Review – A very good play \nA powerful solo play about an unwanted inheritance that ran successfully with SPACEuk at Edinburgh Fringe 2025. 4 Star Reviews from Binge Fringe and Fringe Review. “A very good play.’ \nThis is a play about those things that we inherit and how we often fail to recognise our right to reject them. \n“And they agree\, like all of us\, to simply accept to receive the past.” \nInspired by the plays of Tim Crouch and the theories of Peter Brook and Bertolt Brecht\, Piano Smashers debuted at Brighton Fringe in 2024 and went on to Ventnor and the PBH Free fringe in the same year. \nIt was nominated for Best Performance at The Actors in Brighton and has played at The Cockpit Theatre in London in August 2024 and January 2025.
