Traditional theatre keeps you safe in the dark. You watch the light, and you remain untouched. But Meg’s Room demands that you step out of the dark, and into the narrative.
If you haven’t yet explored Gabriel Loci—a former monastery defined by peeling paint and high ceilings—this is your excuse. Playwright Larisa Serbin and debut director Elina Timashevskaia chose this labyrinth over a standard stage for a specific reason: they didn’t want you to just watch.
“It was important that every detail would be memorable,” Serbin explains.
By staging the piece here, the production positions the “fourth wall” right behind the audience. You aren’t just observing a story about a psychiatric ward; you are inhabiting the space where the madness unfolds.
One of our core missions at the Prague Literary Calendar is to find events that foster connection, not just consumption. This production does exactly that. Drawing from Serbin’s history of hosting intimate salons, the evening is designed as a ceremony with snacks and a social atmosphere—transforming a passive viewing into a communal event.
For debut Director Elina Timashevskaia, the piece mirrors the actor’s struggle:
