Companionship. We all seek it, we all need it. How do we form our relationships with our parents, potential partners, our pets? And how does our own inner world shape the way we see those relationships? Self Partnered, the new one-woman show from Prague-based theatre collective Limbo Pins, exploring those questions with wit and warmth.
Candice is neurodivergent, single, and convinced that a TV reality dating show is the answer to her longing for connection. The show unfolds as a portrait of a woman building her world on her own terms, with her turtle, navigating the persistent presence of her mother meddling with her.
Magdaléna Škerenčák is absolutely joyous as Candice, moving you between laughter and tenderness, while showing the multifaceted character with dignity. She moves between Candice and her mother, reflecting Candice’s state of mind. It is a performance that shows how our inner world colours everything we see outside it. The way Magdaléna plays with the set and the microphone lets us know exactly where we are, creating a vivid experience of someone’s reality, without being mind-bendingly abstract.
Set designer Myrto Zacharaki creates a naturalistic space that never traps you in it, fluid enough to follow Candice wherever her mind goes. The sound design and lighting done by production manager Zofia Greczyło sits you perfectly inside Candice’s imagination.
Limbo Pins debuted at Prague Fringe in 2024 with Ants and Other Strong Things, ran at Edinburgh Fringe, and previewed Self Partnered at the Golden Goose Theatre in London in 2025. Raynar Rogers and Škerenčák have been building this creative partnership for two years now and you can feel their trust in this wonderful exploration of someone navigating relationships.
Self Partnered sets a new standard for English Language theatre in Prague, and I hope it inspires other theatre makers to write and produce their own work here.
